What this recognition says about the future of healthcare compliance

An Award We Never Expected

We’re delighted to share that DAM Risk Assessments has been named Best Healthcare Compliance Consultancy 2026 in the UK Enterprise Awards.

Whilst we’re incredibly proud of the achievement, the truth is that the award came as something of a surprise.

Back in March, we received notification that DAM had been nominated for consideration. What made the moment particularly special was that the nomination came from a client. To this day, we still don’t know who put our name forward, but knowing that somebody felt strongly enough about the work we do to nominate us for national recognition means a great deal to everyone involved.

Following a detailed submission process, the judging panel reviewed entries from healthcare compliance consultancies across the UK. We knew there would be some excellent businesses in contention, so simply reaching the shortlist felt like an achievement in itself. To then discover that DAM had been selected as the winner was both humbling and rewarding.

As it happens, the email confirming the result arrived on Ian Kirsop’s 65th birthday. After a career spent helping businesses navigate health and safety responsibilities, it is difficult to imagine a better birthday gift.

Why This One Feels Different

Over the years, Ian has received recognition for his work within the health and safety profession, but this award carries a different significance.

DAM is not just another consultancy. It is a business built on years of relationships, trust and a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by dental and medical practices. In many ways, the company exists because of the healthcare professionals who repeatedly sought Ian’s advice and expertise.

Long before DAM became a dedicated brand, practice owners, managers and clinicians were recommending Ian to their peers. Referrals were travelling through professional networks, introductions were being made between colleagues and more healthcare businesses were asking for support from somebody who understood the realities of working in regulated clinical environments.

The creation of DAM was a response to that demand. Winning a national award for the business is therefore particularly meaningful because it reflects the confidence that clients have placed in us from the very beginning.

Recognition for a Different Approach

Health and safety has a reputation problem.

For many business owners, the subject is associated with paperwork, inspections and the fear of getting something wrong. Too often, compliance support can feel overwhelming, overly complicated or focused on highlighting problems rather than solving them.

From the outset, DAM set out to do things differently.

Our belief has always been that health and safety should be accessible, understandable and practical. We work exclusively within dental and medical settings because we know that healthcare businesses face a unique set of challenges. More importantly, we believe that our role is to educate and support rather than intimidate.

When we carry out an assessment, we’re not looking to catch people out. We’re looking to help them understand where they stand, what improvements are needed and how those improvements can be implemented in a realistic and manageable way.

That approach has helped us build long-term relationships with practices across the country, many of whom see us as an extension of their own team rather than an external consultant.

The Real Credit Belongs to Our Clients

Whilst our name may be on the award, the reality is that this recognition belongs just as much to the clients who have supported us over the years.

One of the things we are most proud of is the number of recommendations we receive. Within the dental and medical sectors, reputation matters. Practice managers talk to one another. Business owners share experiences. Trusted suppliers are recommended and introduced to colleagues.

The fact that so much of our growth has come through referrals tells us that the relationships we build are making a genuine difference.

When clients tell us that they feel more confident, more informed and better prepared because of our support, that’s what matters most. Awards are wonderful, but knowing that we’ve helped healthcare professionals create safer environments for their teams and patients will always be our greatest achievement.

Looking Ahead

Winning Best Healthcare Compliance Consultancy 2026 is a milestone we are incredibly proud of, but it doesn’t change our focus.

We’ll continue doing what we’ve always done: helping healthcare businesses stay compliant, supporting practice teams with practical advice and making health and safety feel far less daunting than many people expect it to be.

To the client who nominated us, thank you. Truly. From the bottom of our hearts.

To every practice that has trusted us, recommended us or welcomed us through their doors, thank you.

And to everyone who has been part of the DAM story so far, thank you for helping us achieve something truly special.
